How I got rid of my crazy PMS symptoms is something I got to know after getting rid of it. The crazy behaviour during PMS is not natural. When I say, “Crazy PMS” symptoms in the title, I meant I reduced it up to 95%, if there was a way to measure. The remaining 5% is inevitable. When I think about the way I used to feel and act before my periods, it amazes me how much I turned it around.
There are two types of PMS symptoms, emotional and physical.
Emotional Symptoms: Tension or anxiety, Crying spells, Mood swings and irritability or anger, Appetite changes and food cravings, Social withdrawal, Poor concentration etc.
Physical Symptoms: Breast tenderness, Constipation or Diarrhea, Abdominal bloating, Acne, Fatigue etc.
These are some of the symptoms that I used to face on a chronic level. Many of us face these or many other symptoms when we get close to our periods every month, and unfortunately I used to face these issues for 10-12 days. So basically I only had almost 20 days of peace in a month. May be even less. I used to lose my mind unlike other women. My friendships and romantic relationships also suffered because of this. I always used to question myself, why am I the only one in my knowledge who goes through these symptoms like crazy.
When there is a question, the answer needs to be found. So that’s what I did.
Getting rid of emotional symptoms: You must be thinking, I am going to give you some kind of pill to swallow that will make everything go away. Well, not really. If you are also going through extreme mood swings, extreme sadness, getting into fighting mode for no reason and it is affecting your relationships with your loved ones, then it is not just your Premenstrual syndrome. PMS is not supposed to be this extreme. It is some kind of bottled up emotions that you didn’t deal with yet, or someone around you triggered your old wounds that you didn’t even know existed.
When I dealt with all the emotions that was unattended for so long, my body calmed down automatically. Then I automatically built self confidence and self love to trim out the people from my life who touched my emotional wounds unknowingly and don’t even bother to be considerate about it later, even after me conveying my feelings.
So basically when I started looking within myself to sort out all my emotions and started eliminating people who are inconsiderate for me, I basically eliminated the drama from my life. And when I kept doing it consistently, then only I saw the results. PMS is not something new happening in your body, it is basically making you aware of what’s already in there, with higher intensity.
Therapy, meditation, journaling and being purposely silent are the key helpers in order to contain my emotions. Now, I still feel slightly negative and sad before my periods but that happens just a day before and I am able to have great amount of awareness of my own thoughts, which helps me keep calm and collected, no matter how I feel. When you can’t contain your own emotions, you need an outlet for it. And other people are not your punching bag, I realised it the hard way. Better late than never, right?
Getting rid of physical symptoms: They say, you are what you eat. Well, they weren’t wrong. Years of depression which caused me eating disorder and what a sense achievement I feel when I was finally able to overcome my temptation of eating junk food. Now my stomach also has a tongue. Doesn’t matter how much mouth’s tongue wants it, the stomach’s tongue is stronger. My gut health was a mess. Gastritis, constipation, slight chest pain while sleeping, breast pain, irregular periods, stress, inflammation, you name the issue and I had it. My body got swollen and puffy as well. It took me a year to make my gut health 80% better and I am still on my way to the rest 20%.
Eating right and on right time, sleeping good and at the right time, exercising the right way and right time, helped me reduce my PMS on a greater level. When your body is unwell and doesn’t have strength, it ads up to your emotional symptoms of PMS. You must be thinking, this is something very basic and everyone knows it, what’s new in it? You are absolutely correct. This is a common knowledge, the only difference is I APPLIED THIS KNOWLEDGE.
Knowing is not enough, the dedication, consistency, discipline and self love it needs, is the actual challenge. The mentality switch is the actual challenge when people around you are eating just every 2nd day and here you are trying to retire. Your journey is the main part, not the destination. The hardest battle you will fight is within yourself. For more detailed information about my routine and diet, I would recommend reading my blog, How to get rid of cortisol face.
So basically, PMS is not something you need a medicine for. And it is definitely not something to hide behind for your mean and bad behaviour during this time. PMS are not supposed to be extreme and out of control. If it is happening with you, check out my YouTube channel and other blogs for emotional health as well.
